Faith Formation Commission

Commissioner:  Rosalie Ferguson

This commission is responsible for the ongoing faith formation programs of the parish (beyond school matters).  The commissioner is elected by the commission's ministries for a three-year term on the parish council.

Adult Catechetical Team

Contacts:  Janet Copple and Pam Schulz

The Adult Catechetical Team (ACT) provides a variety of ways for adults to share their Catholic faith with one another.  Faith is a life-long process.  As adults we are still "learners" of our Catholic faith, and the ACT team seeks to determine the needs of our adult community and to provide a forum through which those needs may be fulfilled.   ACT welcomes parishioners with an interest in their parish faith community to join our ministry.

Baptism Preparation Committee

Coordinators:  Karyl and Jim Davis, Carol and Tom Feick, Teresa and Jim Lesch

The Baptism Preparation Committee educates parents of young children about the sacrament before these children are baptized.  The committee also serves as a resource for any information about baptism.   The committee is, for many people, "returning" to the Church, the first face-to-face contact with someone in the parish.  To this extent, the committee also performs a public relations/hospitality function.  Membership usually consists of five or six presenting couples appointed by the pastor.

Confirmation Program

Coordinator:  Betsy Traub
Facilitors: Confirmation Team

The Confirmation Program provides an opportunity for sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school to receive the sacrament of confirmation according to Archdiocese of Indianapolis guidelines.  The program helps the confirmation candidate reaffirm the Catholic faith which he or she received at baptism.  Adults who have not received the sacrament are provided with a separate preparation course.

Evenings for the Engaged

Coordinators:  Jane and Rick   Hehman

This program helps parish couples who are engaged to be married to prepare for the marriage, not just for the wedding.  It helps them become aware of what it means to live out their vocation, their calling from God to be a sacramental couple.

Engaged couples preparing for marriage at Christ the King are required to participate in the program.  (Alternative programs may be considered in special circumstances).  The program is coordinated by an appointed volunteer married couple.  Other appointed volunteer married couples participate as presenters or hosts.

Programs, consisting of six sessions, are presented at Christ the King every year.  The programs take place in the homes of host couples.  Normally, five or six engaged couples participate in any given program.  Twelve to fifteen presenting/host couples are needed over a year's time to serve in one or more of the "Evenings" programs.

Catholic Faith Inquiry Series/RCIA

Contact:  Cindy Flaten

The Inquiry Series gives both non-Catholics and Catholics the opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith and its traditions.   This program also implements the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), which provides a formation process for those non-Catholics who are considering joining the Catholic Church.

The series, which is open to everyone, is coordinated by the coordinator of religious education, with the assistance of appointed volunteer committee personnel.

Junior High Youth Group

The Junior High Youth Group provides students of the parish with an atmosphere of Catholic values that can be used to build relationships among themselves.  The group members participate in spiritual and social programs in the parish and community.  The group is coordinated by a volunteer adult steering committee.  Membership is open to all junior high school students in the parish.

Senior High Youth Group

Contact:  Fr. Joe Pesola

The Senior High Youth Group helps instill Catholic values that can enable the group members to grow into adulthood secure in their religious convictions.  They take part in many social and spiritual programs in the parish and archdiocese.

Sunday Religious Education

Contact:  Cindy Flaten

The Sunday Religious Education Program provides a structured atmosphere for teaching the faith to Catholic students who do not attend Catholic schools.  The program seeks to present the Catholic faith as knowledge, as commitment and as life-style.  The curriculum is designed to accommodate children from pre-school through high school.

The program is supervised by the coordinator of religious education.  Volunteer catechists conduct the classes.  These volunteers are required to participated in a certification process defined by the archdiocese.

The commissioner is elected by the commission's ministries for a three-year term on the parish council.

Arts & Environment/Sacristy Program

Contacts:  Beth Hansen and Sheila Sweitzer

The arts and environment committee and sacristans seek to add to the beauty of the environment in the church by decorating the church appropriately throughout the church year and by maintaining the cleanliness of the interior of the building for particular occasions, beyond ordinary standards.

The cantors lead congregational singing at Masses and other liturgical celebrations.  Cantors must be members of one of the established singing groups in the parish (Choir, Gathering, Resurrection Choir).

Chapel Adoration Committee

The Chapel Adoration Committee's sole purpose is to provide the environment and opportunity for individual and group prayer and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, through safe chapel access, prayer groups, and education. Membership is open to all registered members of the parish who are interested in becoming a committee member or a Eucharistic Adorer.

Choir

Director:  Melissa Wood Buechler

A well-prepared choir adds beauty and solemnity to the liturgy and assists the singing of the congregation.  Membership is open to all adult parishioners.  The only qualifications are the ability to carry a tune and a willingness to attend scheduled rehearsals and liturgies.

Children's and Junior Choirs

Director:  Melissa Wood Buechler

Youth choirs give parish children the opportunity of participating more fully in weekend and special liturgies along with the adults of the congregation.  They also provide another type of musical style which is used at various appropriate liturgies.

The Children's Choir is made up of children in grades one through three; the Junior Choir is comprised of students from grades four through eight.  Members are not required to be registered in Christ the King Grade School.

Resurrection Choir

Coordinator:  Rose Sterger

The Resurrection Choir provides joyful, prayerful music at parish funerals.  Through this ministry, the members help promote the spirit of happiness and celebration which should be expressed in a Mass of Resurrection.  At the same time, they represent the Christ the King community reaching out and showing concern to persons who are grieving over the death of a loved one.  Membership is open to all parish members whether or not they are "musical."  The only requirement is a willingness to attend parish funerals when the member's personal schedule permits.

The Gathering

Coordinator:  John Linehan

The Gathering is comprised of singers and instrumentalists who provide a contemporary style of music for liturgical celebrations.  Instruments most frequently used are guitar, flute, and keyboard.  The group is open to all parishioners with musical interests.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Coordinator for ministers serving in the church:  Marianne Kirkhoff
Coordinator for ministers to the homebound:  Eleanor Seaver

The appointed Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist the priests in the distribution of Holy Communion at all weekend and holyday Masses.  At weekday communion services (when Mass is not celebrated), they lead prayers and distribute Holy Communion.  Some ministers take Holy Communion to the sick and elderly.

First Friday Adoration

Contact:  Regina Hansen

On the First Friday of each month, the Blessed Sacrament is placed on the chapel altar after the morning Mass or communion service.  Parishioners volunteer for a Holy Hour of private prayer.  The special day closes at 5:30 p.m.  with Mass or communion service and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the main body of the church.  Everyone is invited to make a Holy Hour or stop in for a brief visit.

Lectors/Proclaimers

Coordinator:  Harold Sullivan

The ministry of lectors is to proclaim God's living word to all his people on Sundays, special feasts, weekdays, and at special services requiring scriptural readings.  Through the lectors, God continues to feed his people at the table of the Word.

It is the lector's duty to be knowledgeable of the scriptures and prepare his/her part of the service with the best skill and effort possible to be able to read clearly and with intensity.

Lectors are appointed.  Interested volunteers are evaluated on the basis of their talents.  On-going training is required.

Ministry of Consolation

Contact:  Norma Poliak

The mission of the Bereavement Ministry is to provide compassionate companionship to parishioners who have lost loved ones and are experiencing the grieving process.

Members of this ministry are lay parishioners who have found themselves called to serve in this special capacity and who are recognized by the Pastor for this purpose.  Appropriate orientation, training, and catechesis will be provided so that members may effectively fulfill their commitment.  The program follows the model developed by the Archdiocese.  In coordination with the Christ the King Parish Office, a parishioner whose loved one has died will be contacted approximately two months after experiencing the loss.

Missalette Changers

Contact:  Jane Wieser

The parish subscribes to a missalette service which provides the readings and music used for Masses and other worship services.  The subscription arrives in several installments during the year.  Missalette changers meet in the church at the appropriate times each year to replace outdated missalettes and music issues with current issues.

Our Lady's Rosary Makers

Contact:  Patty Brooks

Our volunteer team focuses on spreading the prayers and devotion of the rosary to our parish as well as to the missions. This parish group is a chapter of Our Lady’s Rosary Makers (OLRM) based out of Louisville, KY.

We provide FREE rosaries to any mission, group, organization, or individual requesting rosaries (based upon availability). Upon request, this parish chapter of OLRM's also provides instructional pamphlets on how to say the rosary as well as the prayers of the Divine Mercy chaplet. Although our primary goal is for mission recipients, we also provide rosaries to new parishioners, First Communicants, RCIA participants, and for chapel use.

At our monthly meetings, members make handmade cord-and-bead rosaries, put together supplies for take-home kits, sort and count finished products, and train any new volunteers. No previous experience is required and supplies are furnished for all interested in helping. We always need help in all areas from counting beads, cutting string, receiving donations for supplies, and especially with making rosaries.

Servers

Coordinator:  Robert Zetzl

The server program instructs and enables young Catholics to serve Mass at Christ the King Church.  The role of the server in the liturgy is vital to both the presider and the worshipping community.  The servers help maintain a smooth "flow" to the Mass.

Any interested young Catholics in sixth grade through high school who are registered in the parish may volunteer.

Ushers/Greeters

Coordinator:  Debbie Kirby

The ushers/greeters are men and women 16 years of age and older who serve as ministers of hospitality at all liturgical functions in the church.

Ushers are divided into teams (sections).  These teams serve at weekend Masses on a rotating basis.  The ushers fill the traditional role of usher in helping members of the congregation find seats and taking collections, but they also provide information, assist in emergencies, and insure that the church is in order after the liturgical celebration is over.

Our deepening awareness of the need to create and maintain a climate of hospitality within our Eucharistic assemblies has given new importance to the ministry of ushers.  Ushers/greeters make the first official contact with those who gather for the worship ceremony.  They need to put strangers at ease, welcome visitors, and help everyone experience the warmth of the community.

The usher coordinator makes every effort to schedule a particular volunteer into a team which serves at a Mass that volunteer prefers to attend.  Ushers occasionally are requested to serve as ministers of hospitality at special liturgical functions.

Wake Service Ministry

Contact:  Bob Tyburski

The mission of the Wake Service Ministry is to be a compassionate presence to family and friends of a deceased member of the Christ the King Parish community by providing a meaningful wake service.

In coordination with the Parish Office, a member of this ministry will be present at the wake of a deceased member of the parish to facilitate a scripture service or rosary as requested by the family.  Members of this ministry are lay parishioners who have found themselves called to serve in this special capacity and who have been recognized by the pastor for this purpose. Appropriate orientation, training, and catechesis is provided so that Wake Service Ministry members may effectively fulfill their commitment.
