This commission is responsible for the ongoing faith formation programs of the parish (beyond school matters). The commissioner is elected by the commission’s ministries for a three-year term on the parish council.
Adult Spiritual Enrichment Team
The Adult Spiritual Enrichment Team provides a variety of ways for adults to share their Catholic faith with one another. Faith is a life-long process. As adults we are still “learners” of our Catholic faith. The Spiritual Enrichment Team seeks to determine the needs of our adult community and to provide a forum through which those needs may be fulfilled.
The Team welcomes parishioners with an interest in their parish faith community to join our ministry.
Baptism Preparation Committee
The Baptism Preparation Committee educates parents of young children about the sacrament before these children are baptized. The committee also serves as a resource for any information about baptism. The committee is, for many people “returning” to the Church, the first face-to-face contact with someone in the parish. To this extent, the committee also performs a public relations/hospitality function.
Membership currently consists of two presenting couples appointed by the pastor.
Confirmation Program
The Confirmation Program provides an opportunity for sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school to receive the sacrament of confirmation according to Archdiocese of Indianapolis guidelines. The program helps the confirmation candidate reaffirm the Catholic faith which he or she received at baptism. The Confirmation Program starts in September and ends in the Spring with the Confirmation ceremony.
Adults who have not received the sacrament are provided with a separate preparation course.
Marriage Preparation: Evenings for the
Engaged
This program helps parish couples who are engaged to be married to prepare for the marriage, not just for the wedding. It helps them become aware of what it means to live out their vocation, their calling from God to be a sacramental couple.
Engaged couples preparing for marriage at Christ the King are required to participate in the program. (Alternative programs may be considered in special circumstances.) The program is coordinated by the Director of Religious Education. Appointed volunteer married couples participate as presenters or hosts.
Marriage Preparation - FOCCUS Inventory
Each engaged couple is required to take the FOCCUS Inventory questionnaire. It is administered by a married couple who have been trained in this process. The purpose of the Inventory Questionnaire is to help couples learn more about themselves, their partner, and their relationship. FOCCUS Inventory is not a “test.”
Catholic Faith Inquiry Series/RCIA
The Inquiry Series gives both non-Catholics and Catholics the opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith and its traditions. This program also implements the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), which provides a formation process for those non-Catholics who are considering joining the Catholic Church.
The series, which is open to everyone, is coordinated by the Director of Religious Education, with the assistance of appointed volunteer committee personnel.
Christ the King Youth Ministry
Christ the King Youth Ministry is a Pastoral ministry of the church that endeavors to:
Bring the Jr. /Sr. High Youth of our parish closer to God
Provide an environment that allows our youth to develop and strengthen their Catholic Faith
Offer opportunities for our youth to provide “service” to the community
Simultaneously, by achieving these goals, we will provide a spiritually enriching and nurturing experience that will strengthen our youth in their journey from childhood to adulthood.
The youth ministry program is run by the
coordinator of youth ministry along with many adult volunteers who enjoy sharing
their faith with our teens.
The teens are encouraged to attend our youth Mass at Noon on Sundays. They are offered service opportunities, retreats, youth rally’s, Bible studies, social gatherings, mission trips and opportunities to participate as liturgical ministers. Membership is open to all middle school and high school students.
Christ the King Scripture Study
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend parish Scripture Study programs. Scripture Study provides an excellent opportunity to increase knowledge and appreciation of Sacred Scripture. There is a Monday evening group and a Wednesday evening group.
Meeting times are listed in the weekly parish bulletin. Parishioners may attend as many sessions as they wish.
Sunday Religious Education
The Sunday Religious Education Program provides an atmosphere conducive for teaching the faith to Catholic students who do not attend Catholic schools. The program seeks to present the Catholic faith as knowledge, as commitment and as life-style. The curriculum is designed to accommodate children from 4 years old through 8th grade and is based on the standards set by the Archdiocese.
The program is supervised by the Director of Religious Education. Volunteer catechists conduct the classes. These volunteers are required to participate in a certification process defined by the archdiocese.
Christ the
Vocations Ministry
This ministry helps to increase vocation awareness by planning activities with the youth group, writing articles for the weekly bulletin and King’s Crier, and supplying information to the faith community that may result in new vocations.
New committee members are needed and welcome to assist with planning and implementation of goals.
Ministry of Mothers Sharing
The Ministry of Mothers Sharing is designed to help women realize more fully the sacredness of their call to motherhood as well as the challenge of and connection between personal and spiritual growth.
This Ministry was developed by Benedictine, Sr. Paula Hagen, of
This is a ten week commitment enriched with personal and spiritual growth for mothers of children of all ages. The program focuses on our gift as mothers and the faith and love we share with our families. It is also a great way to meet other mothers facing the challenges raising children often brings.
The Christ the King’s Men’s Fellowship Group is an overall group of 80+ men (and multiplying) who meet on a bi-weekly basis in smaller groups to share their Catholic faith. The group’s vision is to support each other in living their Catholic faith in the secular world. The group’s goals are to grow in knowledge, understanding and witness of their faith through Scripture and Church teaching, support and pray for one another as brothers in Christ and to grow in our love for God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In addition to the bi-weekly small group meetings, the ministry offers at least two large group mini-retreats during the year for all men in the parish.
