This commission is responsible for providing the parish and parishioners with individual and communal opportunities for spiritual growth.
The commissioner is elected by the commission’s ministries for a three-year term on the parish council.
Arts & Environment
The Arts and Environment committee seeks to enhance the liturgy by appropriately decorating the church’s interior throughout the liturgical year and by creating an effective and beautiful environment within the church for special occasions.
Cantors
The cantors lead congregational singing at Masses and other liturgical celebrations. Cantors must be members of one of the established singing groups in the parish (Choir, Gathering, Resurrection Choir).
Chapel Prayer and Adoration Committee
The Chapel Adoration Committee’s sole purpose is to provide the environment and opportunity for individual and group prayer and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament through safe chapel access, prayer groups, and education. The committee’s goal is for increased devotion to the Blessed Sacrament with the ultimate goal being Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.
Membership is open to all registered members of the parish who are interested in becoming a committee member or a Eucharistic Adorer.
Choir
A well-prepared choir adds beauty and solemnity to the liturgy and assists the singing of the congregation. Membership is open to all adult parishioners. The only qualifications are the ability to carry a tune and a willingness to attend scheduled rehearsals and liturgies.
Children’s and Junior Choirs
Youth choirs give parish children the opportunity of participating more fully in weekend and special liturgies along with the adults of the congregation. They also provide another type of musical style which is used at various appropriate liturgies.
The Children’s Choir is made up of children
in grades one through three; the Junior Choir is comprised of students from
grades four through eight. Members are not required to be registered in Christ
the
Resurrection Choir
The Resurrection Choir provides joyful, prayerful music at parish funerals. Through this ministry, the members help promote the spirit of happiness and celebration which should be expressed in a Mass of Resurrection. At the same time, they represent the Christ the King community reaching out and showing concern to persons who are grieving over the death of a loved one. Membership is open to all parish members whether or not they are “musical.” The only requirement is a willingness to attend parish funerals when the member’s personal schedule permits.
The Teen Gathering
The Gathering is comprised of singers and instrumentalists who provide a contemporary style of music for liturgical celebrations, mainly the Sunday Noon Mass. Instruments most frequently used are guitar, flute, and keyboard. The group is open to all parishioners, both adult and teens, with musical interests.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion
The appointed Lay Eucharistic Ministers
assist the priests in the distribution of Holy Communion at all weekend and
holyday Masses. At weekday communion services (when Mass is not celebrated),
they lead prayers and distribute Holy Communion. Some ministers take Holy
Communion to the sick and elderly.
First Friday Adoration
On the First Friday of each month, the Blessed Sacrament is placed on the chapel altar after the morning Mass or communion service. Parishioners volunteer for a Holy Hour of private prayer. The special day closes at 5:30 p.m. with Mass or communion service and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the main body of the church. Everyone is invited to make a Holy Hour or stop in for a brief visit.
Lectors/Proclaimers
The ministry of lectors is to proclaim God’s living word to all his people on Sundays, special feasts, weekdays, and at special services requiring scriptural readings. Through the lector, God continues to feed his people at the table of the Word.
It is the lector’s duty to be knowledgeable of the scriptures and prepare his/her part of the service with the best skill and effort possible. The lector must project his/her voice so that all can hear and understand the reading. The lector must read with enthusiasm and intensity. Required dress is coat and tie for the men and dress or slacks for the women.
Lectors are scheduled to read every four to five weeks depending on the liturgical season. Interested volunteers are evaluated on the basis of their talents and the need to fill vacancies.
Missalette Changers
The parish subscribes to a missalette service which provides the readings and music used for Masses and other worship services. The subscription arrives in several installments during the year. Missalette changers meet in the church at the appropriate times each year to replace outdated missalettes and music issues with current issues. This is typically an afternoon activity.
Our Lady’s Rosary Makers
Our volunteer team focuses on spreading the prayers and devotion of the rosary
to the missions and our parish. This parish group is a chapter of Our Lady’s
Rosary Makers (OLRM) based out of
We provide FREE rosaries to any mission, group, organization, or individual requesting rosaries (based upon availability). Upon request, this parish chapter of OLRM’s also provides instructional pamphlets on how to say the rosary as well as the prayers of the Divine Mercy chaplet. Although our primary goal is for mission recipients, we also provide rosaries to new parishioners, First Communicants, RCIA participants, and for chapel use.
At our monthly meetings, members make handmade rosaries, put together supplies for take-home kits, sort and count finished products, and train new volunteers. No previous experience is required and supplies are furnished for all interested in helping. We always need help in all areas: counting beads, cutting string, providing donations for supplies, and especially with making rosaries.
Sacristy Program
Throughout the year, the sacristans gather weekly to insure that the vessels used during Mass are clean and properly prepared for the priests. Their efforts contribute to the smooth running of the liturgies.
Servers
The server program instructs and enables young Catholics to serve Mass at Christ
the
Any interested young Catholics in sixth grade through high school who are registered in the parish may volunteer.
Ushers/Greeters
The ushers/greeters are men and women 16 years of age and older who serve as ministers of hospitality at all liturgical functions in the church.
Ushers are divided into teams (sections). These teams serve at weekend Masses on a rotating basis. The ushers fill the traditional role of usher in helping members of the congregation find seats and taking up collections, but they also provide information, assist in emergencies, and insure that the church is in order after the liturgical celebration is over.
Our deepening awareness of the need to create and maintain a climate of hospitality within our Eucharistic assemblies has given new importance to the ministry of ushers. Ushers/greeters make the first official contact with those who gather for the worship ceremony. They need to put strangers at ease, welcome visitors, and help everyone experience the warmth of the community.
The usher coordinator makes every effort to schedule a particular volunteer into a team which serves at a Mass that volunteer prefers to attend. Ushers occasionally are requested to serve as ministers of hospitality at special liturgical functions.
Wake Service Ministry
The mission of the Wake Service Ministry is to be a compassionate presence to family and friends of a deceased member of the Christ the King Parish community by providing a meaningful wake service.
In coordination with the Parish Office, a member of this ministry will be present at the wake of a deceased member of the parish to facilitate a scripture service or rosary as requested by the family. Members of this ministry are lay parishioners who have found themselves called to serve in this special capacity and who have been recognized by the pastor for this purpose. Appropriate orientation, training, and catechesis is provided so that Wake Service Ministry members may effectively fulfill their commitment.
